Academic Growth

There were four Science sections offering Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) and Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) combinations, one Commerce section offering History, Economics, Commerce (HEC) and one Arts Section offering History, Economics and Logic (HEL). This year also marked the bifurcation of the Pre-University Course from Bangalore University, under the Department of Pre-University, Government of Mysore. The combination changed from three to four subjects (PCMB, HECA and HELP). In the year 1987-88, the college began offering co-education. In the year 2001, the Department of Collegiate Education, Karnataka sanctioned the bifurcation of the Pre-University sections from the degree courses that were being offered by Christ College. The Degree and Postgraduate programmes continued in Christ College which later developed into Christ College (Autonomous) in 2005, and since 2008 it is CHRIST (Deemed to be University). It has expanded in academics with a greater number of courses giving importance to research with a strength of more than 20,000 students.

A separate Pre-University college came into existence as Christ Junior College in 2002 in the campus of present CHRIST (Deemed to be University). Psychology, Political Science, Economics and Sociology (PPES) combination was introduced in 2002-03 while History, Economics, Political Science and Psychology (HEPP) combination was introduced in 2006-07. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science (PCMC) combination in the stream of Science was introduced in 2019. The number of Science, Commerce and Social Science sections were also increased in the year 2003-04. Over the years, Christ Junior College has witnessed a growth in the enrolment of its student body from 300 students in its initial formative years to around 2400 students. We have around 100 faculty members at present.

Keeping in mind the ideals of Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the college undertook visionary initiatives to inculcate moral and ethical values and to ensure social justice to its stakeholders. Keeping in view that a human being is a positive asset and a precious national resource which needs to be cherished, nurtured and developed with tenderness and care, coupled with dynamism (National Policy on Education 1986), Christ Junior College, entered the era of new challenges with a vision of "EXCELLENCE AND SERVICE". The institution evolved its Mission Statement in the year 1997. The current process of the college in implementing the Vision and Mission is a commitment that reflects Holistic education. It is achieved in four areas namely Academic Excellence, Personal Skills, Interpersonal Skills and Societal Skills.
