School culture

School Community

The learning community of the school is the network of relationships between its different stakeholders – students and teachers, students and peers, teachers and colleagues, school, parents and legal guardians and school and the larger community.

A commitment to collaboration is a hallmark of CJC-IBDP school community. There is a sustained dialogue and reflection among and between all members of the learning community. It helps everyone to grow as learners and as professionals to improve student outcomes and well-being.

CJC-IBDP is committed to inclusion. All students are offered equal opportunities. Students are given access to, and engagement in learning, regardless of their background or ability by identifying and removing barriers to learning.

A commitment to health and well-being are fundamental to quality relationships and effective interactions with others. CJC-IBDP continuously makes effort to develop the community’s understanding of the causes and prevention of ill health and ways to nurture positive mental health and well-being. It creates safe learning spaces for students and promotes physical activity both within and outside the school. The school supports students’ participation in extracurricular and community-based activities.

Holistic Education

Christ Junior College-IBDP’s philosophy of holistic education encompasses development of intellectual competence, personal skills, inter-personal skills and societal skills.

We believe that intellectual competence of the learner is developed by pursuing academic excellence and professional competence. Creativity in thinking and action to solve problems, objectively pursuing knowledge, devoid of personal bias, and acquiring skills to use technology effectively to learn are all different aspects of the intellectual competence that we desire in christites.

Development of one’s personal skills lies in one’s emotional poise, moral consciousness and communication skills. Character formation, moral integrity, spiritual development, physical development, courage and conviction are also its different facets.

Interpersonal skills are necessary for a learner to be genuinely open to others whereby the learner lives together, works together and contributes to society. Teamwork, leadership skills and empathy are an integral part of it.

Societal skills refer to the attitude and the ability of the learner to develop responsiveness and sensitivity towards social realities and concern for fellow beings which makes the learner committed to the betterment of the society.

Policies

Every school’s culture is unique. It is shaped by the beliefs, perceptions, relationships, attitudes, and written and unwritten rules that shape and influence every aspect of how a school functions. CJC-IBDP has developed, implemented and reviewed effective policies that help to create a positive school culture in which IB philosophy can thrive.
